ACADEMIC PROGRAM
The academic courses at TIA are designed to expose all students to a wide variety of creative, social, and scientific experiences. These will help them to discover their own strengths and develop new ones and lead them to new opportunities that they may explore.
Our school believes in the necessity of offering an academic education that disciplines and encourages the intellectual and spiritual growth of the student in order to prepare them to pursue higher studies.
At TIA, we strictly follow the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training Curriculum. We are registered and are approved by the Ministry to grants credits. Our BSID number is 881156.

TIA POLICIES
LATE ARRIVAL OR ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL
The school is to be notified (416-297-7336) by the parent if a child will be absent. This can be done the night before, or in the morning before 8:30 a.m. Leave a message on the answering machine, stating the student’s full name, grade, her/his teacher’s name and the reason for the absence or lateness. Parents can also send a note before the absence or lateness.
PUNCTUALITY
Parents should ensure that children arrive at school by 8:30 a.m. Students arriving late miss the Assembly, in which brief anecdotes and important announcements are given. They may also miss a portion of their classes. Parents and students are encouraged to make an effort to arrive to school on time in order to realize the importance of being on time.
If a student arrives after 8:45 a.m., she/he will be subject to disciplinary consequences.
STUDENT ILLNESS
The school is not allowed to hand out any medication to any student unless the school has been notified previously by the parents.
HOMEWORK
Homework completion is an integral part of the learning process of every individual student. Homework includes any incomplete class work, assigned work, projects, assignments, revision of taught material, preparation of next lessons, review for tests and other evaluations. Parents should oversee that the homework is completed as a routine affair. Those students who do not complete assigned homework will be expected to provide the administration with a signed parental note indicating the reasons for the incomplete work. Consistent failure to complete homework will result in consequences at the discretion of the teacher and/or the administration.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
Students are required to be in proper uniform once inside the school premises. Those students who are not in proper uniform will be asked to call their parents and sent home. A clean uniform must be work by all students everyday, including school trips.
TRIPS AND EXCURSIONS
A trip includes any activity which is outside of school property that requires a vehicle to transport students. An excursion is any activity outside of school property that does not require a vehicle to transport students.
All trips and excursions are essential in a student’s path to understanding concepts. All children are expected to participate. The trips and excursions allow the students to get a hands-on experience. A form for trips will be sent home requiring the parents’ permission will be given to parent to sign. All trips and extrusions will be supervised by staff member(s) and/or parent volunteers.
WAIVER OF LIABILITY
Tayyibah Islamic Academy takes all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of all students. However, TIA is not liable in the event of any personal injury or accident caused to a child(ren) while at school at any time on a school day (including before 8:30 a.m. or after 3:15 p.m.), on a school trip or any excursion.
CHILD ABUSE POLICY
In the event of a teacher suspecting child abuse of any kind, she is to report is immediately to the Administration.
REPORT CARDS
At Tayyibah Islamic Academy, the academic year is divided into two semesters; semester one starts in September and ends on the last day of January. Semester two starts in February and ends in June. Each semester ends with a number of final examinations and then a report card presenting the final grades in the subjects that the student completed in that semester.
Students also receive a Mid-Term report in the middle of their semester which comprises of grades in each course up to the middle of the semester. Parents are expected to view and, if need be, discuss their child’s progress in the courses she is taking. Parent-teacher meetings occur after the First Term Mid-Semester report cards are distributed. Parents are also free to discuss their child’s progress by making an appointment with the administration.
LEVELS OF ACHIEVEMENT
The levels of achievement associated with percentage grades are as follows:
{A} 80-100% {Level 4}: A very high to outstanding level of achievement. Achievement is above the Provincial Standard.
{B) 70-79% {Level 3}: A high level of achievement. Achievement is at the Provincial Standard.
{C} 60-69% {Level 2}: A moderate level of achievement. Achievement is below, but approaching the Provincial Standard.
{D} 50-59% {Level 1}: A passable level of achievement. Achievement is below the Provincial Standard.
{F} Below 50%: Insufficient achievement of the curriculum expectations. The student will not receive a credit for the course.
ATTENDANCE
The principal shall provide the classroom teachers with the necessary registers for recording pupil enrolment and attendance. The principal shall also provide the teachers with all the information about each pupil that they will require in keeping their records. This information includes the name of the child, the grade, the gender, and when the date that they were admitted into the school. The principal shall ensure that enrolment and attendance records are accurate.
PARENTS’ RESPONSIBILITIES
Tayyibah Islamic Academy admires its students and therefore has high regards for its student’s parents. Our Academy encourages parents to explore positive contributions they can make to their children's education and school, to promote peaceful, non-aggressive and non-hostile conflict resolution between parents, teachers, and the administration, and to enjoy their children’s journey through our Academy on the path to becoming successful Muslim members of society.
We are passionately willing to work closely with parents to ensure that their child attain grades appointed as standard by the Ontario Ministry of Education and aid those students who wish to surpass those standards and reach their above average grades.
The Academy also requires of the parents to embrace Islamic education and embed it into their own daily lives so that the principles of Islam that are taught at Tayyibah Islamic Academy can be practiced in our student’s day-to-day activities inside and outside of the Academy.
STUDENTS’ RESPONSIBILITIES
• Students will attend all classes on time.
• Students will be prepared for class with the appropriate materials and homework completed.
• Students will not participate in cheating or plagiarizing their work or the work of others.
• Students will be honest with all staff and students.
• Students will express themselves without the use of profane language or offensive gestures.
• Students will participate in positive group activities and will not be involved in any swarming, bullying, intimidating or harassing of staff or students.
• Students will show respect for others by not participating in teasing and ridiculing.
• Students will respect the personal property of others and the Academy.
• Students will respect and follow direction from all staff of the school.
• Students will respect the safety of others by not bringing real or imitation weapons to school or school related events.
• Students must adhere to the school dress code everyday as prescribed by the school management.
CONSEQUENCES OF UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR
• formal warnings to the student by the school administration
• removal from class to a supervised time-out location
• supervised detention
• temporary removal of privileges (classroom/school); i.e., field trips
• removal from class (temporary/permanent)
• in school suspension
• out of school suspension with an appropriate and clear return to school protocol
• restitution for property damage to an individual or school board
• police involvement/criminal charges
• expulsion from a school or all schools
